digiFAB Collaborative Workshop for Design Model Generation using Fabricating Machine

For the last decade, the advancement of computer-aided architectural design (CAAD) technologies and techniques have been took significant role in design field production. It has been range from the use of CAAD -as digital tools- for standard design documentation to the more experimental use of parametric associative modelling for finding the novel tectonic and its production. As the further impact of this use of these digital technologies which allow its users to control the production process through the associated-digital model that work in core of geometric properties, now the architects/designers become not merely put their concern on the final representation of the architectural  production  but rather emphasize  on finding potential strategy to collaborate design production process and design variants at the early stage of design.

The digiFAB Collaborative Workshop will cover on how to utilize laser cutting and engraving technique tools to achieve the highest quality of DIV standing desk lamp as possible. The participants will exercise start from digital development of the ideas and test out the design production using fabrication machine(s).

The workshop will consist of an intensive weekend (3 consecutive days) of work on software and laser cut machines. These are the agenda:

The first day, January 19th, 2018

The course will begin by getting the participants familiar with precision modelling and a brief interaction with parametric associative modeling software: Rhinoceros and Grasshopper (GH). The agenda will be dedicated to learn about navigation, workflow and constraint within Rhinoceros and GH in a simple parametric operation.

Location: Digital Architecture Laboratory, Dept. Architecture UII, Jalan Kaliurang KM 14.5

Second day, January 20th, 2018

The participants will be learn how prepare 'file to factory' process : a direct transfer of data from a 3d modeling software to a laser cut machine. Then manage how to feed the digital data into the machine as also try out to do basic operation of laser cut machine.

Location: Digital Architecture Laboratory, Dept. Architecture UII, Jalan Kaliurang KM 14.5

Third day, January 21st, 2018

Participants will collect data process from the design process into fabrication, work in group and ready to be presented to public at designated exhibition place in Yogyakarta

Location          : HONFablab, Jalan Langenastran Lor no.16, Yogyakarta
