Welcome to our site. Sugeng rawuh!
In the Department of Architecture, Universitas Islam Indonesia, architecture is meant as a process of creating life through engineering space. We do our best to offer a balance educational process between architectural research and profession, explorative but sensitive design and reliablity of engineering as well as awareness to human culture and environmental concern. Beside looking at modern architecture and new technology as part of our architectural endeavour, we, as part of Islamic institution, also see that the poor and the marginal communities are part of our challenge needed for rigorous intervention.
At current state, the Department posseses a very reputable position as it is accredited by the Higher Education National Board of Accreditation of Indonesia (Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi - Indonesia NO. 016/BAN-PT/Ak-XI/S1/VIII/2008) with "A" grade (outstanding) and high rank among national schools of architecture. The Department is also a member of Indonesian Association of School of Architecture (IASA - Asosiasi Pendidikan Tinggi Arsitektur Indonesia - APTARI). Despite as a young institution, founded in 1987, the Department has a strong academic environment with 27 full time permanent academic staffs (most of them hold doctorate and master degree) supported by dozens of part timer of professional architects, engineers, and other related fields.
The faculty comprises four major area of expertise namely history and theory of architecture, architectural design and computing, building technology and material, as well as landscape, urban design and planning. As advancement of the expertise, the staffs develop six research centers for their academic and scientific activities. Those are Sustainable Built Environment Centre (SUSBEC), Center for Real Estate and Built Environment (CREATE), Centre for Islamic and Nusantara Architecture (CITAR), Centre for Architectural Appropriate Technologies, Centre for Socius Design (CSD) and Centre for Green Urbanisation Studies (CGUS). The centres promote research in the Department through conducting regular seminars, discussions as well as supervising student final projects. We hosts also a newly founded journal namely Jurnal Pendidikan Arsitektur Indonesia (JPAI) or the Indonesian Journal of Architectural Education which is a discursive venue for research groups, lectures and tutors and students emphasizing architectural education in Indonesian context. It connects education realm with building industries and architectural practices. The JPAI contains variety of architectural topics on architectural history and theory and criticism, structure and building science as well as design practices. The Journal encourages discursive architecture on marginalized community, gender, race or ethnicity, as well as multicultural and participatory approach. Furthermore, for our social responsibility, we also develop the Architectural Advocation Body(called Lembaga Bantuan Arsitektur - LBA) that makes a direct linkage between staffs, students and communities possible through apprenticeship and advocation.
The University is well known for its student's activities. In the Department is now enrolled around 650 students originated from across the nation. With their variety of architectural origins they enrich our academic environment. More than a thousand of alumnae are currently working in many architectural, design and property related fields. Many of them have a very good reputation in their hometowns or work in national and international companies.
Last but not least, situated in the suburb of Yogyakarta town, the Main Campus of the University is a "green campus" hosting the Department that creates convenient ambient for learning. Considerable lower in term of living cost, abundant supply of private student dormitories, photocopies and internet facilities, Yogyakarta becomes an "education town," fertile ground for prospective candidate of student.
We welcome you to explore our web as well as our campus space!
